Trailing 4-0 after six innings, the Tides scored twice in the seventh on Brandon Waring’s two-run home run. They made it 4-3 in the ninth when Steve Tolleson delivered an RBI single with two outs. After Tolleson stole second, Waring struck out.
It was the Tides’ fifth straight loss and pushed them closer to elimination from playoff contention. Norfolk, already out of the International League South race, trails Pawtucket by 5½ games in the wildcard standings with seven to play.
Norfolk left-hander Dana Eveland took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits in seven innings.
After a day off, the Tides conclude the season with seven games at Harbor Park. Starting Tuesday night, they host the Bulls for three more games, then Gwinnett for four.
