Heyman: Mets Agree To 2-Year, $20 Million Deal With Colon

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The Mets’ quiet offseason has gotten considerably louder.

Late last week they signed former Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson to a four-year, $60 million contract. Then on Wednesday they reached an agreement with right-hander Bartolo Colon on a two-year, $20 million contract, CBSSports.com and WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman reported. Colon would still have to pass a physical.

The Mets are said to have a plethora of young arms in their system, but they needed an established starter to anchor the rotation now that phenom Matt Harvey will miss the entire 2014 season due to Tommy John surgery.

Colon fits the job description.

The 40-year-old former Cy Young Award winner went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for AL West champion Oakland last season. He is 189-128 with a 3.94 ERA over 16 seasons, with seven teams.
